Twenty Six Years of Service!

I bought this same style of bag in 2001 at the Schofield Barracks Uniform Shop on Oahu. That bag served me across the United States, Scotland, England, Spain, Crete, Cyprus, Egypt, Ethtiopia and Bahrain. It was on my back through many markets, hauling groceries and souvenirs, as well as clothing, medications, toiletries and other supplies.

It would have probably served me another 26 years, had my kitty not used it as a scratching post, and alas, I had to retire it and acquire a new one. However, all is not lost! I passed it on to a friend who's mom is very good with sewing, and she was able to repair the damage. Now it will serve them for another 26 years.

Now, I have to admit, every single time I pulled on the zipper on an overstuffed bag, I lived in mortal fear that it would rupture. My experience with other bags instilled that dread in me, but my Bugout Bag never failed. It never creaked, never groaned, never gave even the slightest sign that it might fail.

I love to shop on government auction sites, and I see literally hundreds of used military backpacks being sold. But compared to this one, they're all lowest-bidder trash, falling apart in just a few short years.

So don't waste your time with snooty, high-falutin, expensiveau bags from the hiking and camping boutique stores. Get the Real Deal, one that will last you a lifetime! (At least so long as you keep your kitty from sharpening their claws on it.)

Or better yet, get one for your son or daughter when they reach the age of 13. It'll serve them well, from middle school, all the way to their doctorate degree.

Quality seems to be lacking with current models

I have previous versions of this back pack, bought a new one in 2026 in foliage green. After packing it for the first use in the field, one of the MOLLE loops already began tearing away from the pack. The padded waist belt is also ridiculously short, don’t expect it to fit if you have to wear any other equipment or armor under the bag. I’m very happy with my older pack, but not so much with this one. build quality appears to have gone way down hill and if it is already tearing, I don’t expect it to last long

Awesome backpack!

This is the best backpack I have ever owned for traveling. I ended up buying a second one because I gave my first backpack to my son for his travels around the world.
I can't imagine traveling without this backpack. It holds an incredible amount of clothing and other essentials while remaining comfortable to carry. The construction is excellent—it's very well made, durable, and built to last.
I highly recommend this backpack to anyone looking for a heavy-duty travel backpack.

Great bag

I bought this same bag around 2006 (bag is slightly redesigned now for MOLLE attachments) and it lasted me all through two military deployments and then 8 years of college before it finally gave out (hole developed in the bottom) after approximately 12 years of heavy use. Bought a replacement bag in 2018 and it’s still holding up to this day. Buying another one now just to have one in reserve and the great discounted price.
